Amazon Seller Fees and Charges

Amazon selling fees depend on the following factors:

  1. Product Category
  2. Product Sub-category
  3. Selling price of your product
  4. Fulfilment Mode (Easy Ship, Self-Ship, Amazon FBA, Amazon Seller Flex etc.)
  5. Source and destination locations of the order (Local, Zonal, National)
  6. Weight and dimensions of the product (Weight-based, Volumetric)
  7. Storage duration (Short Term, Long Term – when storing at an Amazon Warehouse)
  8. Shipping Type (Pre-paid, COD)
  9. Return Type (By Customer, By Courier (RTO), Replacement

Broadly, the Seller Fees for Amazon India consists of the following:

  • Referral Fees-  This fee also called as Amazon referral fees is charged basis the category that the seller is selling. It also depends on the price of the item. This rate starts at 2% for categories like books (priced below Rs. 250) and can go up to 22.5% for fashion jewellery. The highest is for warranty services which is 38%. It is simply a charge you pay for being showcased on Amazon. 
  • Closing Fees- This fee is charged every time your product is sold. It depends on the price range of your product and the fulfilment mode you are using. 

FBA Closing Fees

  • Weight Handling Fees – This is basically your shipping fees. If a seller uses Easy Ship or (FBA) Fulfilment by Amazon, the seller will be charged a fee for the product that Amazon delivers. However, if a seller uses the Self-Ship model, he will have to bear the cost of shipping. Here, engaging a 3rd party courier service or one’s own delivery agents become essential. What are the Amazon rates?

Local rate is applied when the pickup and delivery happens in the same city i.e. intra-city pickup and delivery. Regional rates apply when the shipment moves through the same region. The zone consists of four regions. Amazon applies a national rate when the shipment moves across different regions.

Amazon Shipping Regions:

Region 1 – Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh – Zone A*** and Uttarakhand

Region 2 – Dadar and Nagar, Diu and Daman, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra

Region 3 – Andaman and Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Lakshadweep

Region 4 – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh-Zone B**, West Bengal

**Uttar Pradesh-Zone B: The following administrative divisions will be considered as part of Uttar Pradesh-Zone B – Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Basti, Devipatan, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, Prayagraj and Varanasi.
***Uttar Pradesh-Zone A: All administrative divisions in the state of Uttar Pradesh that are not part of Uttar Pradesh-Zone B.

  • Fulfilment Model Based Fees- The above shipping fees cover most types of Amazon orders. However, a seller is charged additional fees when they opt for special Amazon fulfilment programs. These include the following:

Pick & Pack Fees (FBA Only) – This fee is charged per unit sold at ₹10 for Standard, ₹50 for Overize, Heavy & Bulky items.

Storage Fees (FBA Only)- This is the fee charged for storing your products in the Amazon Fulfilment Center costing ₹20 per cubic foot per month.

FBA Removal Fees (FBA Only)- In case you wish to remove your products from the Amazon Fulfillment Center then the following fee rates will be applicable:

These above fee rates are applicable for new sellers who will join the “Standard” level program in the Amazon STEP program. As sellers move up levels, they will be able to unlock multiple benefits including fee waivers, account management, faster disbursement cycles & more.

  4. Seller’s Performance Tier (Bronze, Silver, Gold) – This is determined by your performance as a seller, based on your on time fulfilment rate, cancellation rate, customer returns, etc.

Types of selling fees and charges that Flipkart charges sellers are as follows:

The final settlement amount is equal to your (Order Item Value)- (Marketplace Fees) – (GST on Marketplace Fees). The marketplace fees is split into the following components:

  • Commission Fee: This fee is charged for use of Flipkart’s marketplace platform. It is calculated as a percentage of the Order Item Value, which includes the selling price and shipping charge paid by the customer. It excludes discounts offered by Sellers and any NDD/SDD charges. Commission rates vary by sub-category and, in some cases, by FSN. The commission is not charged in case of customer or courier returns.  The same rate card applies to all tiers. The rate can range from 2.8 – 25%.
  • Fixed Fee Charge: This fee is charged on every successful sale on Flipkart’s marketplace platform that is any order which is not returned or canceled. This varies based on Order Item Value and sub-category the product belongs to. Fixed fee is not charged in case of customer or courier returns. The same rate card applies to all tiers. 
  • Collection Fee Charge: Payment collection charges for orders placed on Flipkart’s marketplace platform. The selling price is equal to the amount paid by the Customer including shipping charges paid by them if any. The same rate card applies to all tiers. The rate varies from 2% to 15%.
  • Shipping Fee Charge: This fee is charged for shipping order items to customers. Chargeable weight is calculated as the higher volumetric or dead weight of the product when measured with primary packaging. It also varies based on shipment destination – local, zonal and national. For certain verticals, the chargeable weight is capped at 1.5 times dead weight. The rates given below are indicative. The exact rates are determined by your status as a Flipkart Bronze, Silver or Gold Seller.
  • Reverse Shipping Fee Charge: Charged for reverse pick-up and shipping when customers return a product, and varies based on chargeable weight and shipment zone. For certain verticals, the chargeable weight is capped at 1.5 times dead weight. The same rate card applies to all tier sellers. It can cost Rs. 6 onwards, depending on zone & weight.
  • Return Charges – Customer Refund: The payment policy for customer returns where a refund has to be processed will be done as mentioned here. This policy is applicable to all customer returns. Note: Reverse shipping fee will be proactively reimbursed through SPF if the returned product is found to be damaged, incorrect or missing at the time of product verification at the Fulfilment Center. Returns due to unsuccessful delivery to Customer or Customer cancellations prior to delivery completion are not charged. These returns are commonly termed as RTO. Starting 15th March, 2017 delivery charges paid by buyers for FAssured listings will be passed to the seller.
  • Return Charges – Replacement: The payment policy for customer returns where a replacement has to be delivered will be done as mentioned here. Forward charges on replacement products will apply only where Flipkart incurs a direct cost. This policy is applicable to all customer returns. Note: Reverse shipping fee will be proactively reimbursed through SPF if the returned product is found to be damaged, incorrect, or missing at the time of product verification at the Fulfilment Center. Returns due to unsuccessful delivery to Customer or Customer cancellations prior to delivery completion are not charged. These returns are commonly termed RTO.  Starting 15th March 2017 delivery charges paid by buyers for FAssured listings will be passed to you.

Charges under Flipkart Fulfilment (or Flipkart Advantage)

  • Pick And Pack Fee Charge: Pick And Pack fee is charged for picking and packing of order items when using Flipkart Advantage (also known as Flipkart Fulfilment). This varies based on weight and whether the item is fragile or not. Weight is calculated as the volumetric weight or dead weight, whichever is higher, when measured with primary packaging. Same Pick And Pack Fee rate card applies for all seller performance tiers.
  • Same Day Delivery (SDD): This fee is charged to customers when they request delivery on the same day as the order date. Equal fee paid by the customer.
  • Next Day Delivery (NDD): This fee is charged to customers when they request delivery on the next day after the order date. Equal fee paid by the customer.
  • Storage Fee (Sellable Inventory): This fee is charged for storing inventory in Flipkart’s warehouses. It varies based on the weight and age of the inventory. Weight is calculated as the volumetric weight or dead weight, whichever is higher when measured with primary packaging. The same rate card applies to all tiers

           Age slabs for Sellable inventory:

           Regular: < 4 months
Long Term Storage – 1: 4 to 6 months
Long Term Storage – 2: > 6 months

  • Storage Fee: (Sellable Inventory): This fee is charged for storing inventory in Flipkart’s warehouses. It varies based on the weight and age of the inventory. Weight is calculated as the volumetric weight or dead weight, whichever is higher when measured with primary packaging. The same rate card applies to all tiers

            Age slabs for Unsellable inventory 

           Regular: < 1 months
Long Term Storage – 1: 1 to 2 months
Long Term Storage – 2: > 2 months

  • Recall Fees: This fee is charged for delivering unsold inventory back to the Seller from Flipkart’s warehouses. It varies based on weight and whether the item is considered fragile or not. Weight is calculated as the volumetric weight or dead weight, whichever is higher when measured with primary packaging. The same rate card applies to all tiers.

Note: GST taxes will be applicable on all of the above mentioned fees.
