How to Register as a Seller on Amazon India?

Complete these simple steps to start selling on Amazon:

  • Create a Seller Account on your browser: sell.amazon.in
  • Click on Start selling button.
  • You will be redirected to seller central Login page, create your Amazon Account.
  • For Registration Process, you will need to fill in basic information like
    • Name
    • Mobile Number
    • Email ID
    • Password
    • *Remember: Not to provide the same number in which your buyer account is registered.
  • Verify your Mobile Number by entering the OTP.
  • If incase you have not added your email ID, it will ask you to add the email ID again.
  • You will need to add your Company/Business Name and accept the seller agreement.
  • Phone verification needs to be done by entering your mobile number and entering OTP number.
  • Next section, you will need to add basic seller information i.e tell us about your business, address, landmark and so on.
  • You will need to add your whatsapp number to get important messages or information from Amazon.
  • Also, you will need to select your preferred shipping method from the list.
  •  When you submit the seller details, it will take Amazon some time to verify your details.
  •  Amazon India will also ask you to enable 2 step verification process, which adds more security to your seller account.
  • Next, you need to enter your Tax Details like GST, PAN number etc.
  • *Note: If you already have a seller account with the same GST number, then you will need to create a new GST number for the new seller account, in order to prevent duplication.
  • You need to list your product details that you want to sell. Add as many products in this step.
  • Add the shipping details and selling price
  • Enter your bank account details.
  • Enter the tax details.
  • Add the product tax code
  • Last you need to add a Digital Signature.
  • After adding all the details, click on Launch your Business.

Amazon Selling Fees are Calculated Basis the Following: 

  • Seller’s product category
  • Seller’s product sub-category
  • Selling price of product
  • Fulfilment mode opted for by the seller (Easy Ship, Self-Ship, Amazon FBA, Amazon Seller Flex etc.)
  • Source location  and destination location of order. This is split into local, zonal, and national)
  • Dimension and weight of the product (Volumetric weight-based calculation)
  • Duration of storage when storing at an Amazon warehouse. This could be short term or long term.
  • Type of Shipping according to payment method. i.e. Pre-paid or COD
  • Type of Return i.e. Customer or courier (RTO), replacement etc

Amazon referral fee is charged basis the product category. While charged for, when you sell a product, it is the price for being show-cased on Amazon India which is the “referrer”.

Referral fees start at 2% for categories like books (priced below Rs. 250) and can go up to 24% for fashion jewellery costing more than Rs. 1000. The highest is for warranty services which is 30%.

Closing Fees is a fixed fee based on price that is paid by your buyer. It depends on your product price range and the fulfilment mode you are using.Refund commission is applicable once an order has been returned to the seller and the issues a refund to the customer.

Region: Local, Regional, National

Type of Shipping: Basic, Standard, Advanced, Premium

Local rate is applied when the pickup and delivery happens in the same city i.e. intra-city pickup and delivery. Regional rates apply when the shipment moves through the same region. The zone consists of four regions. Amazon applies a national rate when the shipment moves across different regions.

Pick & Pack FeeNot Applicable

This is a factor of price band and regions. Standard weighted products across all regions are charged Rs. 12. Bulky/heavy products across all regions are charged Rs. 26.

FBA Prep Service is charged for properly packing & prepping your product. This is charged per item and is different from the standard pick & pack fees.

FBA Label prep fees are applied when Amazon applies a specific label to your inventory once they arrive at the Amazon Warehouse.

Storage FeesNot Applicable

Monthly Fees- Charged for storing products at an Amazon Fulfilment Centre. The cost per cubic metre per month is Rs. 1165. The cost per cubic foot per month is Rs. 33. It is charged basis your average inventory per month.

Long Term Storage Fees- Applicable over and above the monthly fees.

Removal Order Fees & Disposal Fees- You can have your inventory removed from an Amazon Fulfilment Centre. This can be returned to you or you can be charged a disposal fee to dispose the goods.

 

 

Cancellation ChargeHigh Volume Listing Fees 

Buyer requested cancellations are exempt from cancellation charges. In case of cancellation of seller fulfilled orders, you will be charged the following:

-100% of referral fee if cancelled on or before ESD

-150% of referral fee if cancelled after ESD

Its a monthly fee also known as HVLF.

These are charged on products which are beyond the 2 million ASINs stated on Amazon and those listings that are non-media in nature. For more details see here.

Amazon is responsible for picking, packing, delivering, providing customer service and managing returns. 

All these are fulfilled from the same locations.

Seller handles inventory storage, packing & shipping products are being caged in the seller’s warehouses. The seller is responsible for any late, missing, or damaged product deliveries and are fulfilled from the sellers locations.Stocks/units are being caged in the seller’s own warehouses and are fulfilled from the sellers locations. Once the orders are received, the products are to be packed in Amazon-branded packaging material. The seller flex program can be chosen for heavy products that incur additional storage costs in the FBA warehouse.A delivery service for the Amazon Indian sellers. The order are collected by the Amazon Logistic Delivery and delivered to the customers. Customers are also allowed to track the shipping and the estimated delivery dates. Also made simple payment method called Pay on Delivery ( Cash On Delivery).Stocks/units are stored in sellers warehouse where stock can be used for fulfilled other Master Production Schedule (MPS) orders as well.
Set Up 

You can visit the My Services page by navigating to Settings > Account Info > My Service and then register for Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA).

Need to select the country.

1 – Select the states and the fulfilment centre.

2 – Enter the following tax details:

PAN (Permanent Account Number)

Legal Name and Business Address

GST Certificate (required if selling in taxable categories only)

3 – Register fulfilment centre as an Additional Place of Business 

(APoB).

Apply online to register Amazon fulfilment centre as an additional place of business (APoB).

You can also take help from a Chartered Accountant (CA) or a tax consultant.

4 – Fill up self-declaration form (for tax exempt categories).

APoB acknowledgement (taxable categories) / Self declaration (tax-exempt categories).

Upload image signature by scanning a copy of your signature on a white paper.

Disadvantages

Amazon handles most of the fulfillment process, the seller has to pay a fee. 

Moreover, this program is not ideal for low-cost items.

Amazon has a 

set of requirements & guidelines for products coming into the warehouse for FBA. 

The seller has lesser control over the inventory.

Increased responsibility – Responsibility of managing inventory, packaging & shipping may be overwhelming for some sellers.

Overhead costs – Even though FBM sellers won’t pay fulfillment and storage fees, they have to bear overhead expenses, including their own storage, fulfillment, and shipment costs.

Missing out on Amazon Prime members – Over 50% of Amazon shoppers are Prime, and 1-day/2-day free shipping with Prime is often a purchase criterion. Without being a Prime seller, many of the potential customers are missed out who may have purchased the product if it were Prime. Besides, enrolling for Seller-Fulfilled Prime is a sizable task.

Increased manpower – Functions such as filing claims, checking returns, in-bounding inventory & removing inventory from flex require additional manpower.

Additional IT cost – The seller needs to have label printers, UPS inverter, etc. This leads to additional expenses.

Technology fees – Seller Flex program requires the seller to pay ‘Technology fees’ at Rs. 10/order.

Handling cost rising due to different rates of shipping charges

– There is no fixed courier service for your daily product shipping in all the location wise

– Tireness of managing inventory on your own

– Once, product delivered, Amazon will send your amount after 1 week by deducting taxes which will affect your flow of managing

– Payment options are very limited

– Insuarance does not cover your loss of lost shipping
